Starting from spring 2018 Varengold Bank and its 70 Employees in all 3 branches have been paying special attention to environmental protection. Many changes have been made on the road to a more sustainable office life. With success: lately we have been awarded an active membership with Umweltpartnerschaft Hamburg - a programme by Hamburg’s Agency for Environment and Energy promoting local businesses’ voluntary actions towards more environmental protection.
Our network printers are shared by all employees. Hereby the number of printers and with it their energy consumption could be reduced. Since spring 2018 we have been printing on 100% recycling paper, have been using several other products made of recycled paper and introduced digital flipcharts. That way our employees contribute to a responsible usage of wood as a resource. In addition, we have been confidently obtaining green energy for several years now.
By offering subscriptions for inexpensive business tickets for Hamburg’s public transport (HVV Profi-Ticket) Varengold Bank gives its Hamburg-based employees the opportunity to contribute to environmental protection not only while commuting but also in their leisure time. In order to further encourage the usage of public transport by its employees, we subsidise each subscription.
Of course, we are looking forward to staying a member of Umweltpartnerschaft Hamburg and are already planning the introduction of further measures for the protection of the environment in 2019.
Our key result: Varengold sponsors 250 hours of volunteer work throughout the quarter. Every employee can invest up to 4 working hours in social projects throughout the quarter. The hours worked are also given a 10 Euro donation for a good cause.
How and where do we spend the working hours on social projects in a purposeful way? By just starting. For example, on our doorstep in Hamburg.
Drink for the good cause! We have converted our conference water to Viva Con Agua, supporting water projects around the world. It is just the little things that count..
The passion to collect has grabbed us – and for good reason! There are many worthwhile projects that we can easily support. The proceeds of our private returnable bottles benefit the UNICEF University Group. With the plastic lids that we collect, Deckel Plan e.V. funds polio vaccinations. And foreign currencies that we find in our wallets and purses from our last holiday make a real difference in the lives of people in need thanks to Welthungerhilfe (World Hunger Help)!
At the HSH Nordbank Run, colleagues run for a good cause. Others prefer to sort socks and satchels at Hanseatic Help e. V. And again others help out in the patient restaurant Aidshilfe Frankfurt. We have found many very worthwhile projects, in which we like to invest the working hours we have given. As different as our commitment is, we are completely unanimous in one thing: Everyone can do something – and they should!
